The PGA Tour season continues on Thursday, May 25, following the second major championship of the season. The 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge returns to Fort Worth for the second Texas tournament in the past three weeks. Sam Burns is the defending champion after defeating Scottie Scheffler, the current world No. 1 player, in a playoff. Burns hit a 5-under 65 on the final day to force the playoffs. Scheffler is the 4-1 favorite in the latest odds for Caesars Sportsbook’s 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge. Jordan Spieth (12-1), Viktor Hovland (14-1), Tony Finau (14-1) and Collin Morikawa (16-1) are next in line on the PGA odds board, while Burns is 22-1 to repeat . Our proprietary model, created by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model has made over $8,700 on his best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted that Jon Rahm would top the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and American Express. That bet came in at +4500, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets came back over $1,100. McClure’s best bets also included winning Jason Day (17-1) at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, even though he hadn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2018.

The best predictions from the 2023 Charles Schwab challenge
A big surprise the model is waiting for at the Charles Schwab Challenge 2023: Hovland, five-time winner of the PGA Tour and a top favorite, stumbles this week and barely makes it to the top 10. Hovland is coming off an impressive showing at the PGA Championship, securing a T-2 at Oak Hill. Hovland has now finished T-7 or better in each of his last two starts in the major leagues.
However, Hovland has struggled a lot the week after the majors this season. Following her T-7 arrival at the Masters, Hovland recorded a T-59 arrival at RBC Heritage a week later. He also finished T-31 or worse in three of his last five PGA Tour starts. The 25-year-old is one of the best ball forwards on the circuit, but ranks 114th in earned hits: puts (-0.074) and 145th in earned hits: puts (-0.074) total put (263.9). He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the field at the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Another surprise: Max Homa, a 22-1 long shot, is on a good title run. Homa has a much better chance of winning it all than the odds do him, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 32-year-old finished in 55th place at the PGA Championship but finished T-8 first at the Wells Fargo Championship. He has four top-10 finishes in his last eight tournaments.
Homa has won two of 15 events with seven top-10 finishes this season, including winning the Farmers Insurance Open in January. He is eighth in earned hits (1,817) on the PGA Tour with top 20 earned hits on tee to green, green approach and putting. His putter has been critical to his success, as he is fifth in earned strokes: putts (.709,) fourth in putt average and sixth in total putt.
